IFA Best of Show: Samsung Galaxy Tab
As the IFA tech tradeshow winds down in Berlin, one of the clear standouts at the show was the Samsung Galaxy Tab, an Android tablet phone. The Galaxy Tab is a 7-inch tablet that is positioned to compete with the iPad.

To summarize the differences — the Galaxy Tab is smaller and lighter and supports up to 32GB of expandable storage. In addition, while the iPad is without a built-in camera, the Galaxy Tab has both front and rear-facing cameras. And of course the Galaxy Tab has smartphone capabilities.

The other week when I heard about this tablet for the first time I thought alot more of it than I do now. After stumbling onto a tablet website last night that was running 2.1 w/ a working Android Market, and 1080p output via HDMI aswell as a slew of ports all for less than $200, with great reviews from people who had it, this tablet isn’t as great now. I mean sure it will have 3G which is useful, but you don’t really need that these days when you phone has 3G (and if its Android you can probably do Wi-Fi tethering) and there is WiFi everywhere basically. I am really surprised that these tablets from Asia are not bigger over here, every once in a while you hear about a department store which is selling one for $150-170, but its nothing special. There are some great tablets out there, you just have to look for them. Even though I personally think tablets are pretty useless other than for media consumption and prefer to carry around my laptop.
